No Labor Day Break for Metro's Track Work Schedule

Work will continue on the Red, Blue and Orange lines this weekend.

Metro's rigorous schedule of weekend track work will not get a Labor Day break.

"Red Line trains will single track between Rhode Island Avenue and Fort Totten to allow for platform reconstruction" this weekend, Metro's website reported.

All weekend, "Red Line trains will operate between Shady Grove and Glenmont every 15 minutes in each direction. On Saturday and Sunday, between 9:30 a.m. and 9 p.m., additional trains will operate between Shady Grove and NoMa-Gallaudet U stations," providing service about every seven to eight minutes between these stations.

"Red Line customers traveling through the work zone should allow about 10 minutes of additional travel time," Metro's website reported.

Additional track work will take place on the Orange and Blue Lines, Metro's website reported.

But, "[a] previously scheduled shutdown on the Green and Yellow [lines] over Labor Day weekend has been cancelled due to Nationals home games at Navy Yard. Green and Yellow line service will operate on a regular weekend schedule," Metro's website added.

Metro's Labor Day weekend schedule:

  • Friday, Aug. 31: 5 a.m. to 3 a.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 1: 7 a.m. to 3 a.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 2: 7 a.m. to midnight
  • Monday, Sept. 3: 7 a.m. to midnight
