Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney A. Katz says he’s made up his mind and will run for Montgomery County Council, The Gazette reports.
The mayor said in December that he was considering running for the District 3 council seat being vacated by Councilman Phil Andrews, who’s running for County Executive.
He tells the newspaper that community support played a major factor in his decision to run.
At least two other people—including Gaithersburg Councilman Ryan Spiegel—have said they planned to run for the District 3 seat, which represents Gaithersburg and Rockville.
Rockville City Councilman Tom Moore told Patch in December that said considering running for the County Council seat, as well, but he has not made a definitive choice.
No official filings had been made as of Thursday, according to Maryland State Board of Elections records.
