Leggett: Katz is the 'Person to Beat' in County Council Race

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett didn’t give an official endorsement, but his blandishments came pretty close when a Montgomery County Community Media reporter asked him to opine on Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz’s plans to run for Montgomery County Council.

“I think that he’ll probably be the person to beat, in my opinion, in this race. He’s an excellent candidate. He’ll be an excellent addition to the County Council,” the county executive said in a video posted at MyMCMedia.org

Leggett hasn’t made any endorsements and told Montgomery County Community Media’s Sonya Burke that he planned to “sit down and talk” with Katz in a few weeks.

Katz is one of at least three to express interest in the Distrct 3 council seat being vacated by Councilman Phil Andrews, who’s running for county executive.

Gaithersburg City Councilman Ryan Spiegel said he plans to run.

Rockville City Councilman Tom Moore said he was interested, but has not yet determined whether he wants to enter the race.
