Mizeur Blasts Health Care Exchange 'Debacle'

Del. Heather Mizeur is the latest gubernatorial candidate to attack the state's implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

Delelgate Heather Mizeur, who represents Montgomery County, slammed the rollout of the state’s health care exchange in a news release calling Maryland’s the implementation of the Affordable Care Act a "debacle."

"Rather than becoming a shining example of how a good government state could best implement this new major reform, Maryland’s performance has been among the worst in the country," Mizeur, who is running for the Democratic nomination for governor, said in a news release.

Mizeur tried to contrast the implementation of a health care exchange under the administration of Gov. Martin O’Malley and Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown with the state’s experience with legislation she supported expanding access to the child health insurance program.

Both Harford County Executive David Craig, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, and Attorney General Doug Gansler, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, have used the state’s troubled health care exchange as an opportunity to attack Brown, who is also running for governor. Brown was in charge of the health care exchange’s implementation.
