Look Up: There Could be Untapped Living Space in Your Attic

If you're living in a older home and are looking for extra living space, you might just need to look up.

If you're living in a older home and are looking for extra living space, you might just need to look up. Your attic could offer the prime, untapped space you're seeking. Nowadays, many homeowners in Maryland and the DC metro area are converting their attics into:

  • Extra bedrooms
  • Bathrooms
  • Master suites
  • Home offices
  • Retreat spaces
  • Sitting areas
  • Art studios
  • Other spaces

My wife and I recently renovated our attic to create a retreat space that offers a quick and easy getaway from the world. The renovation included several key elements that make the space user-friendly and inviting:

  • Skylight windows were a must and offer plenty of light and fresh air
  • An open floor plan creates an airy feeling and room for our large chairs and exercise equipment.
  • Subtle storage space allows us to conceal seasonal and other items that we still need to store in the attic.

The renovation has made a big difference in our lives. No longer do we rely solely on our small living room or back sitting room for relaxation space. Plus, we can each have "along time" in the space reflecting on our days or chilling out in front of the TV. And, while we're up there, we sometimes experience that wonderful sensation from our youth of just "hanging out" in our room. Click here to see photos of the remodel.

If you're considering an attic remodel, give us a call. We'd be happy to discuss your needs and goals.
