Patch Picks: The Best Local Bars

Where to get your party on this weekend.

The weather is getting nicer and that can only mean the beer will be getting colder. Here are a few local Gaithersburg bars that we think are worth sidling up to.

: Located in Gaithersburg, BWB is a gathering place for the sports and wings fan. BWB offers 171 different combinations of buffalo wing sauce for their specialty wings. They won first place in the ‘creative sweet’ category at the 2010 National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, New York. Happy Hour is from 4-7 p.m. and they offer late night specials from 11:30 p.m. to close. BWB offers a variety of games including darts and billiards. Restaurant/Bar Hours: Monday - Thursday, Sunday, 11 a.m. - 1 a.m.; Friday - Saturday, 11 a.m. - 2 a.m.

: Located on West Diamond Avenue, Dogfish brings its brews from Milton, Delaware to the Metro area. When you visit Dogfish, check out their beer chalkboard, it’ll tell you what they have on tap and the ABV (Alcohol by Volume) of each homemade brew. Dogfish also has its own line of spirits too…a little bit of everything for the pub goer. Dogfish is a great place for happy hour, a business lunch or dinner with the family or friends. And you can enjoy a brew or two while sitting on their outside patio. Visit their events calendar page for the latest happenings and live entertainment schedule. Hours: Monday – Wednesday: 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday: 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., Friday-Saturday: 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., Sunday: 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

: The outdoor, covered deck is ideal for that gorgeous Spring or Summer evening when you and some friends want to enjoy the weather and a beer. Here you can enjoy the taste of gourmet burgers and freshly brewed beer. This American cuisine restaurant is located in the heart of Olde Towne Gaithersburg. The upstairs portion of this restaurant is a dedicated bar with live entertainment, a variety of video games and several televisions to view your favorite sporting event. Come and sample their Alley Way Amber, Growlers I.P.A. or the Growlers Blueberry Ale. And when you are ready to head home, you can purchase a “growler” of your favorite, local craft brew. Hours: Sunday -Thursday, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 a.m.; Friday - Saturday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 a.m.

: Located off of Shady Grove Road, J.J Muldoons is a great Irish Pub where you can relax, enjoy a drink and grab some grub. Muldoons serves burgers, soups, sandwiches, salads, entrees, pizza, appetizers, sides and has a kids' menu. They also offer free Wi-Fi, NTN (gaming system), and the NFL Sunday ticket. Open for lunch and dinner and has the capability to host your private party. Hours: Sunday - Thursday, 11:30 a.m. - 1 a.m.; Friday - Saturday, 11:30 a.m. - 2 a.m.

: A family-owned sports bar located near the Airpark in Gaithersburg. Gentleman Jim’s is known for their pizza, subs and spirits too. Gentleman Jim’s is a two-fold establishment with a family dining restaurant on the lower level and the Upper Deck bar upstairs. The Upper Deck is referred to by the locals as the “Cheers of Gaithersburg.” Restaurant Hours: Monday - Thursday, 11 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.; Saturday, Sunday, noon - 10 p.m. Upper Deck until 1:30 a.m.

Patch.com would like to remind all our rowdy readers to not drink and drive. Please drink responsibly.

I'd love to hear thoughts on Tony and James. I haven't been since it opened. There always seems to be a handful of people in there, but not a lot. Plus, I heard that the ownership has changed already, too? We like some of the smaller bars in the Kentlands. The bar at Coal Fire is fun and same with Bonefish.
