Anonymous Tweeter Questions Montgomery County Fire Leadership

Twitter account claims stations are without basic needs.

You may have seen a Twitter account called @MoCoFire, which has been posting anonymous messages about pest problems and a lack of supplies in Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service stations.

Capt. Oscar Garcia, spokesman for MCFRS, said the department does not know who is behind the postings and stressed that the account is not the official Twitter of MCFRS, which is @MCFRS.

Among the postings are accusations that many stations are without necessities such as cleaning supplies and that the Germantown station is infested with brown recluse spiders.

One posting reads: "Montgomery County: 1 million people, over 500 square miles, one of the richest counties in nation, and FD basics aren't being met. Shameful."

Garcia said that he hasn't heard complaints of any supply shortages and that there have been no confirmed reports of spiders at the Germantown station.

"In any organization, you're going to have rumors," Garcia said.

Another post said the supply shortage has forced the chief and deputy chief to buy supplies at Home Depot on their county credit cards.

The chief and deputy chief are on leave and could not be reached for comment, Garcia said.

Garcia said the department has an open-door policy and that whoever is posting the complaints shouldn't hesitate to reach out to him or MCFRS's leadership.

The account's owner declined to comment in a Twitter message to Patch.
