Dryer Fire Displaces One

No one was injured in the blaze.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue units quickly put out a fire in the basement of a town house this afternoon on Red Kiln Court in Gaithersburg.

The fire was sparked by the clothes dryer, according to Fire and Rescue spokesman Capt. Oscar Garcia.

About 40 firefighters responded to the scene, he said.

There was one person home when the fire began, Garcia said, but he had evacuated by the time firefighters arrived.

The resident was unhurt, but will be displaced.

When rescue crews arrived on the scene they saw smoke coming from the basement of the town house, and they found fire when they entered.

But the flames were quickly put out, and within a few minutes firefighters were sweeping the home for additional hot spots.

No damage estimate was immediately available, Garcia said.
