Gaithersburg Man Arrested, Charged with Attempted Murder

Mathew Braxton is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center.

The street crimes unit of the Gaithersburg Police Department arrested a 27-year-old Gaithersburg man last week.

Matthew Braxton, of the 200 block of Bookham Lane, has been charged with attempted first degree murder and first degree assault. Additional drug related charges are pending.

According to a press release issued by the Gaithersburg Police Department,

"On April 25, 2012 at 7:10 p.m., due to recent complaints from citizens about possible drug activity, officers were in the area when they observed an individual approach the residence and meet with Braxton.  Further investigation revealed as Braxton and the individual were talking, an argument ensued at which time Braxton retrieved a handgun from his waist and pointed it at the victim.  During the struggle the firearm was discharged."

The victim was transported to the hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Braxton is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center.
