Gaithersburg Drunk Driver Sentenced to Prison in Fatal New England Crash

A 23-year-old Gaithersburg native was sentenced Tuesday to two-and-a-half years in jail for driving drunk and causing an accident that  and critically injured three others, according to a report by Burlington, VT. television station WCAX 3.

Derek Seber, a former Norwich University student, was driving drunk after a party on Oct. 2, 2011—with a blood-alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit—when he crashed his car, killing 18-year-old Norwich freshman Renee Robbins, a Kentwood, MI, native.

Seber told the court he plans to spend the rest of his life educating young people on the dangers of drinking and driving and his mother, Susan Seber, apologized to the Robbins family, according to the report.

"The knowledge of what our young and promising son has done, brings me to my knees on a daily basis," Susan Seber said.
