Gaithersburg News Briefs: Citizens Police Academy, National Night Out Against Crime

The following news was released by the City of Gaithersburg:

Enrollment Now Open for 2012 Citizens Police Academy

The Gaithersburg Police Department is now accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy, which begins Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012. Weekly sessions will be held at the  from 7 to 9:30 p.m. every Tuesday night through Dec. 4, 2012. Class size is limited to 16 residents who must be at least 16 years of age. The deadline for applications is Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012.

 “I encourage anyone who is able to attend and make the commitment to come join Class No. 15 as a participant. It is an eye-opening opportunity to get a better understanding of your police department,” Gaithersburg Chief of Police Mark Sroka said in a statement.

Gaithersburg Neighborhoods, Businesses Participate in National Night Out Against Crime

Five neighborhoods and one business community in the City of Gaithersburg are joining with more than 15,000 groups across the country to participate in the 29th Annual National Night Out (NNO) Against Crime campaign.

Participating neighborhoods/businesses in the Tuesday, Aug. 7 event include:

  • Saybrooke (6 – 9 p.m.) – Cookout at the Community Pool
  • Hyde Park (5:30 – 8:30 p.m.) – Cookout at the Community Pool
  • Quince Orchard Park (7 – 9 p.m.) – Outdoor picnic and demonstrations at the Community Center
  • Kentlands (7 – 9 p.m.) – Event at the Community Center
  • Brighton Village Apartments (7 – 9 p.m.) – Event at the Community Pool
  • Antojitos Restaurant (6 – 9 p.m.) in Olde Towne.  Event in their parking lot
