A gas leak near the Montgomery County Airpark has forced evacuations and road closures in the surrounding area.

The leak occurred Wednesday morning on Snouffer School Road at Cherry Laurel Lane. Emergency responders are on the scene.

Several businesses and slightly less than two dozen people have been evacuated, according to Montgomery County Fire Department spokesman Scott Graham. Snouffer School Road is shut down in the area of TW Perry.

The leak sprang from a valve line off of a transmission main, Graham said. Washington Gas is attempting to control the flow by crimping the affected line.
