Kentlands Mansion and Firehouse Vandalized

Spray painted graffiti appeared on the buildings last week.

Someone gave Gaithersburg the bird last week.

A spray-painted graffiti bird, that is.

On June 23 just before noon, a resident reported the vandalism at the Mansion and across the street at the abandoned Kentlands Firehouse, spokesman Officer Dan Lane said.

"Unknown suspect(s) spray painted a small bird on the bricks near the front of the mansion and on the lid of the recycle bin," Lane said in an email. "Another bird was located spray painted on the boarded up basement window of the firehouse."

Another bird was reported somewhere on Main Street, but it was never located, he said.

Public works crews quickly removed the graffiti.

Lane said police don't think the vandalism was gang-related, but they don't have any leads in the case.
