Man Charged With Murder in Beating Death of 3-Year-Old Son

Montgomery County police say a Damascus man has been charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of his 3-year-old son.

WJLA reports that Brian O'Callaghan, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in the death of his son, Hyunsu.

Investigators were called to Children's National Medical Center in Washington on Feb. 2 and told the boy's injuries, including trauma to the brain, indicated he had been beaten. The child died the next day and police say an autopsy determined the manner of death was homicide by multiple blunt impact injuries.

Police say O'Callaghan told investigators he was caring for Hyunsu for two days and took the unresponsive boy to an emergency center. O'Callaghan is being held without bond.
