Missing Man Found Dead in Trunk Near Shady Grove Metro

Maryland State Police are investigating a possible homicide of a Frederick County man whose body was found Monday in the trunk of his car parked in a Montgomery County lot.

The body of John P. Ryan, 37, was found Monday afternoon in the trunk of his black 2007 Lexus LS460L, police said. The car was found parked in a parking lot used by multiple businesses in the 15000 block of Somerville Drive in Derwood, MD.

The Shady Grove Metro station is located at 15903 Somerville Drive, but a Maryland State Police spokesperson would not disclose the specific lot in which the car was parked.

Ryan’s wife reported him missing to the Frederick Police Department on Nov. 29, police said. The last time she saw him at their home was on the night of Nov. 27, and she told police he had left the house before she woke up on Nov. 28.

Maryland State Police removed the car from the lot and transported it by truck under police escort back to the Maryland State Police barrack in Rockville, police said.

Police also found an undisclosed quantity of a substance that could be marijuana and cash in the trunk, according to the report.

No arrests have been made and police said they have not identified a possible motive.
