Authorities say Tomas Herrera Batres, 49, of the 8200 block of Piney Branch Road, died from his injuries on June 23.

Blanco-Melgar, 31, of Hyattsville was arrested last week and is being held without bond. A preliminary hearing on the charges is set for July 18, reports Gazette.Net. He also faces charges of first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

Officers were called at 12:04 a.m. on June 19 to a second-floor apartment in the 8200 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring for a stabbing. The apartment is located above the El Sitio Restaurant at 8210 Piney Branch Road.

Police found Batres in the second floor hallway suffering from multiple stab wounds.
