Police: Gaithersburg Man Arrested After Robbing Girlfriend in Arlington

Spokesman: Suspect returned to Arlington apartment while police were on scene.

Arlington County police say a 25-year-old Gaithersburg, Md., man robbed his girlfriend recently only to be arrested when he returned to her apartment shortly afterward.

Daryl Villanueva has been charged with burglary and is being held without bond.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, Villanueva kicked in his girlfriend's apartment door in the 1700 block of North Troy Street near the Courthouse neighborhood, according to information police released this week.

He then assaulted her and stole an unidentified amount of cash from her purse, according to police. He also took makeup and a clutch wallet, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

The woman, who investigators have not identified, immediately called police. They arrived and were on the scene when Villanueva returned a short time later, Sternbeck said.

The woman identified the man and he was taken into custody without further incident, he said.

"I don't know why you would return to the scene of a crime … especially when he saw our presence there," Sternbeck said.

The woman sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment, he said.
