Police: Gaithersburg TD Bank Robbed Twice on Same Day

Police link one of the robbers to PNC Bank heist in Bethesda.

The TD Bank in Gaithersburg was robbed twice Friday. Montgomery County Police said that as the first robber was leaving, a second male approached the teller with note demanding money.

“We believe that they were committing the robbery together,” said Officer Rebbecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman.

At around 2:30 p.m., police responded to reports of a robbery at the bank, at 15830 Shady Grove Road. Police have since released surveillance footage, with hopes someone could identify the males.

Police linked the second robber to a PNC Bank robbery in Bethesda on Aug. 16.

“If you look at their surveillance photos, he's wearing similar clothing,” Innocenti said.

PNC Bank is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest for the Aug. 16 incident.

Police described the first robber as a black male, 5-feet, 9-inches to 6-feet tall, and between 35 and 45 years old.  Police said the man was wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt and white baseball hat. 

The second robber was described as a black male, 5-feet, 10-inches to 6-feet tall, and between 35 and 45 years old.  Police said the man was wearing a long-sleeved red shirt, a black tie, dark-rimmed glasses, and a dark-colored fedora.
