Police Identify Man Shot to Death in Gaithersburg

Police: Still no arrests made; two men seen leaving scene.

Michael Kirby Alvarado was gunned down in broad daylight at an apartment complex Thursday in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County police said Friday.

Detectives are still trying to find out who killed Alvarado, 25, of the unit block of Benji Court.

At around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Montgomery County police responded to reports of gunshots at 438 N. Summit Ave. in Gaithersburg, where they found Alvarado lying dead in the sidewalk.

Police said he was shot multiple times.

Citing witnesses’ accounts, police said two men were seen leaving the scene. But after a massive manhunt involving helicopters and SWAT, police were unable to find a shooter.

Meanwhile, Forrest Oak Middle and Gaithersburg Elementary schools were placed on lockdown. Gaithersburg Middle and Washington Grove Elementary schools were ordered to shelter in place.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact police at 240-773-5070.  Tips received through the Crime Solvers program may be eligible for a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Information can be submitted anonymously by phone or online.
