Report: Army Ranger Guilty In 2006 Shooting Death of Fellow Ranger

Former Army Ranger Gary Smith was found guilty Wednesday of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting of his roommate and fellow Army Ranger Michael McQueen in their Gaithersburg apartment, The Washington Post reported.

Former Army Ranger Gary Smith was found guilty Wednesday of involuntary manslaughter for the 2006 shooting death of his roommate and fellow Army Ranger, Michael McQueen, in their Gaithersburg apartment, The Washington Post reported.

A Montgomery County Circuit Court jury deliberated for nearly 12 hours over two days before reaching a verdict, The Post said, but the jury rejected the most serious count of second degree murder.

"McQueen was found dead early in the morning of Sept. 26, 2006, after he and Smith spent a night smoking marijuana, drinking and playing pool," according to the report. "The elite soldiers had served together in Afghanistan."

Smith's defense attorney said they plan to appeal the ruling.
