Suspect Charged in Death of Man Found In Car Trunk Near Shady Grove Metro

A 51-year-old Anne Arundel County man was charged with murder Tuesday in the death of John P. Ryan, whose body was found in the trunk of his car near Shady Grove Metro in December.

A 51-year-old Anne Arundel County man was arrested Tuesday at a New York airport in connection with the killing of a Frederick County man who was found dead in the trunk of his car near the Shady Grove Metro station in December, Maryland State Police announced in a press release.

Michael A. Stahlnecker, of the 1700 block of Fallsway Drive in Crofton, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/violent crime, police said.

Police said Stahlnecker killed 37-year-old John P. Ryan of Frederick County in December. . State police have not disclosed the specific parking lot in which Ryan's body was found. The Shady Grove Metro station is located at 15903 Somerville Drive.

Police said they suspect Ryan and associates were involved in the importation and distribution of marijuana. Stahlnecker was identified as a close associate of Ryan’s in this operation, the release said.

Investigators said Ryan and Stahlnecker had a meeting scheduled on the morning of Nov. 28 at a warehouse leased by the suspect in the 3300 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road in Laurel.

Evidence indicates Ryan was shot at the warehouse location and then driven in his car to Derwood, where his body was found in the trunk, police said.

Stahlnecker is being held on a fugitive warrant in New York pending extradition to Maryland. The investigation is ongoing.

Looking down the comments it may be a good time to remind folks that drug prohibition is one of the biggest disasters in US history. It is rare when people argue policy to have such a clear precedent as we do with the disaster of alcohol prohibition. Just as smart teatotalers rightly condemned alcohol prohibition, sensible people who don't use drugs also will eventually realize that drug prohibition is a mess. Consider the violent gangs and crooked police that controlled alcohol. And the army of police that was needed to fight the war against it, all riding on the taxpayers' shoulders. And look now at the sale of alcohol, and how ordinary, non-violent people produce, market and sell it. It is better and cheaper, and the massive hidden costs and violence are gone. The drug war is the same, only MUCH more expensive. End drug prohibition and enjoy: 1. HUGE relief for the taxpayer 2. the immediate end of most urban violence 3. cheaper, safer drugs not cut with rat poison and such 4. a HUGE cut in crime to fund drug habits 5. a minor increase in drug use, if any (I'm not about to start shooting heroin if it becomes legal, will you?) 6. a MAJOR, healthy improvement in police-citizen relations, in the cities especially The example is clear. Work to end it now. And don't be surprised when opposition arises from the crooked pols and police who are on the take, as well as the massive policing machine that cashes in on the war with the black market.

So Guy, are you: 1. a gangster 2. a dirty cop 3. someone who gets paid well for fighting the drug war 4. just an ordinary fool 5. a sociopath 6. an 8-year-old with access to a laptop 7. several of the above Inquiring minds don't actually want to know. It's rhetorical.

I mistakenly worked for Stahlnecker at MBC back in 2005 and he was DALLYING in drugs then and I quit because I got tired of Michael taking my paycheck and spending it on HIS wants. Michael is a piece of crap - has been for MANY years. He's screwed so many people over, the list would wrap around the country several times over!!! Shit..he still owes me my last 2 paychecks worth about 4 grand when I tried to take him to court...the COWARD hid in the bathroom. Michael is a thief, a liar and a COWARD! The guy probably told him something he didn't want to hear so he shot him twice in the head....that's Michael...when he doesn't get his way...he just does whatever he wants and has for a long time. He DESERVES everything he gets. I hope HUGE dude makes him their special "BITCH"!!!

Dagem Hailemariam February 21, 2013 at 06:39 PM
This is sad...so much negativity. The fact is a man died in a horrible way and there are hurting people that are left behind including children. Sad that there is someone posting on here without using their real name...Pappy Lendenbaum is not real and wtf is up with the name Dagem Coby Horst?! To all of Brian's family and friends please try and ignore the childish antics of an anonymous commenter. Those that really got to meet Brian and got to know him, get him, those that didn't and dont, don't get him. He had a good heart towards those he cared about. To speak ill of the dead says more about the person speaking than it does about the person they are speaking of.
Brian Pappalardo February 21, 2013 at 09:36 PM
Thanks Dagem well said. I would not have even entertained or bothered to read these comments untill i was told my name was being used. who ever is using pappy-horst-lendenbaum-coby or dagem really has issues. I've written and talked to this newspaper in attempt to delete all these messages and to dicontinue this forum regaurding our dear friend John P Ryan.
You coke head losers February 22, 2013 at 12:35 AM
Coke heads defending their dealer, must have gotten that last 8 ball for free!! First hit was always free and I guess he had a gift in tricking people into thInking he cared about them while taking their money. When maggots crawl out of their shit holes to defend/argue facts from multiple sources and pretend the community got it all wrong, you know the bullshit is piled high. Agree with boo hoo...who has kids with a coke dealer and why should anyone feel sorry? Good riddance - and to the last couple posts and a few other names in this thread and the dead thug, all of your public case files available the md case search website. Pathetic, all of those defending this coke dealer while handing him your parents (or stolen) money for blow so he could buy a Lexus and laugh at you behind your back. Haha - good riddance losers - face reality and deal with it. Everyone gets what is coming in the end
Be like Mike February 22, 2013 at 12:45 AM
LMAO - really??!?! Dagem and Brian?!!?!?!? Wow, talk about losers, two of the biggest in the state in one forum?! Whoever this coke dealer was must've been a real winner...so funny. This story gets better and better with each posts!! I know Michael and if he did in fact kill him then I'm sure there was a good reason for it. Michael is a great man and is getting a bad rap, he told me John thought he was a tough guy...now whose the tough guy
Seora Fishman February 22, 2013 at 02:50 AM
"He had a good heart towards those he cared about". This is the most asinine thing I've ever heard. So the people he didn't care about, he sold them dope and wrecked their lives. No es bueno!!

There is nothing really more pathetic than a person who can't even stand up for their words...just hiding in the shadows and typing funny comments. The reality is that you are caught up in a world of characters that you think you know. You all don't need to search my cases online, ask me all you want to know. I don't have shit to hide. I was a wild child and have lived and am living a very full life. At the moment, I am travelling a lot; living a really nice life. My daughters are having a blast too. I just sent my oldest, she is 11, with her mother, to London so that she can watch her favorite band live. You might have heard of them, One Direction? Anyways, Come visit me, I live in Stockholm, Sweden. We can go to Milan for Coffee or London for tea and have lunch in Paris (the best food in the world). After that we can catch an Opera in Vienna...if you like Opera you will love how the Austrian's do it. If you come you might have a chance to learn that what you remember was a long time ago and that people grow up and grow from their experiences. For real, John "Brian" Ryan was unfortunately born in the wrong country. If he would have been born in Holland it would have been a totally different story. Whatever is whatever, those that knew him got along with him...and from what I can remember I never really bought nothing from him, just the occasional 1/8th of the wacky tobbacky without the chemicals.
Thug Life 4eva! February 22, 2013 at 11:06 PM
Cocaine isn't evil and coke dealers deserve some respect. Brian would front me crack, coke, and heroin occasionally when I was broke and he would take payment in the form of iPads, iPhones, car stereo's, laptops and jewelry and that helped me from getting withdrawal sickness. Funny, he used to pay me in drugs for giving him names and addresses of other dealers and would share most of the cash and stuff that he got from robbing them sometimes. He wasn't a wanna be gangsta, he was the real deal scarface

i have been good friends with Michael for 20 years and this entire thing is just unbelievable to me.........I am having a very hard time trying to "wrap my head around" this. To Michaela and Mike's family...... my thoughts are with you all constantly and I am praying for you to maintain the strength to get through this. Mike is a good man and has always been there for me, i value his friendship very much..... My heart also goes out to the Ryan family. The truth will come out in the end and no one should judge until that happens.
Luis Castro February 28, 2013 at 01:57 AM
Bryan Ryan was a closeted gay and cocaine pusher, the entire DC gay community knew him and will not miss his overpriced low quality blow. He was going to come out of the closet soon and I'm saddened he didn't.

And who do you think let's the drugs in the USA anyway jerk off.............the government. They get rich and it destroys lives but everyone asshole do u really think a small child aspires to sell drugs no but when your own government supplies it and makes it your only option to feed your family u chose to survive so u adapt. But someone who live at a computer would not know anything about the real world.
nicole wilson April 30, 2013 at 10:09 AM
This forum is a testament to how sad society has become. And how stupid. the government lets all of this shit happen to begin with. no one deserves to die . even over bad coke. and i love how everybody is talking about coke. Unless you personally bought from him at some point, you dont know what the deal is. and if you supposedly did, wtf its an unregulated game. Not everyone got drugs from him. He was a father, and friend to many people he didnt supposedly deal to. He gave back to his community several times that i know of. i think the cowardly dicks talking shit should thank ronald reagan if you really knew anything about the US and their useless war on drugs. It has ruined the fn world. i guess the cowards talking shit are drunks and addicted to nicotine. all dsngerous and highly deadly and permited by the man! Brian was always the coolest guy from the day i met him 20 years ago. he was not a bad person. He is another pawn in our governments evil game like most of us are! I hope my friend didnt suffer long. this is a very bad situation and im soooooooooooo sorry for his families lost.
