Terp Linebacker from Gaithersburg Arrested

Alex Twine was charged with disorderly conduct and failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order.

An 18-year-old freshman linebacker for the Maryland Terapins was arrested in College Park after allegedly punching cars and fleeing from officers, ESPN reports.

Gaithersburg native Alex Twine was charged with disorderly conduct and failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order.

wine has a hearing scheduled for Jan. 30 at 1:15 p.m. in Hyattsville, according to the Washington Post.

Twine was spotted Friday monring "ranting and punching cars at a shopping center near campus," the Post reports. An officer ordered Twine to stop, but the linebacker ran.

The officer caught Twine and charged him accordingly.

“We’re aware of the incident and will let the judicial system run its course,” Maryland spokesperson Shawn Nestor said in an e-mail to the Washington Post. “We will handle the matter internally in accordance with our student-athlete code of conduct.”

Friday was Twine's 18th birthday, the Post reports.

"Twine had a strong freshman season on Maryland’s injury-plagued defense. Twine started four games and collected 44 tackles, including one sack."
