Three Gaithersburg Police Officers Suspended

The Police Chief briefed the Council in a closed-door session with an officer standing guard outside.

The Town Courier is reporting that Gaithersburg Police Chief Mark P. Sroka has suspended three officers.

There was also an emergency closed-door meeting on March 21 in which Chief Sroka spoke to the Council while a police officer stood guard outside.

No details were given about why the officers were suspended, but one has been reassigned, and all remain on the payroll, the Courier reports.

“By state statute (§3-112 of the Public Safety Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland), the Chief of Police is authorized to impose emergency suspensions with pay if it appears that the action is in the best interest of the public and the law enforcement agency,” City Manager Angel Jones said in the article.

“In addition to the emergency suspensions, one sworn officer has been assigned to address administrative priorities,” she said.
