I'm the homeowner in the picture. Thank goodness it was a rainy day and no one was playing outside at the time. Why a tractor trailer was on this road to begin with, I have no idea (how many other residential neighborhoods was the driver planning on travelling thru to get to where? Clarksburg?). This was a one vehicle accident for two simple of reasons - speed and poor road design. I have been begging the county to put something - a speed hump, a crosswalk island, a stop sign - at the base of the hill to force the traffic to slow down before hitting the uphill curve. County originally fought me on installation of the guardrail until a fourth car crashed into our yard during one of their "traffic studies". The latest "traffic calming measure" provided was a line painting job to "visually narrow the road"... now I know how good that idea was at reducing speed. I swear this has to now be rated one of the county's most dangerous roads - how many other roads have had over 6 crashes and a fatality in less than a decade? I hope the new councilmember for this area - Rice I believe? - will be responsive to the obvious problem this road presents so long as vehicles are allowed to reach speeds in excess of 50-60 mph...physics is physics. I'm glad no one was hurt. I'm curious to know if the driver of the tractor trailer spoke with you. If so, what did he/she say? Thanks.
