Wife Acquitted in Murder-For-Hire Trial

Prosecutors: Luisa Paiz, 33, still faces 45 years behind bars for her involvement in the incident.

A woman was found not guilty of hiring a man to kill her husband in Montgomery Village, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

But Luisa Paiz, 33, could still spend a few decades behind bars: The jury found her guilty of assault and conspiracy to commit assault, for which she faces a 45-year sentence.

Prosecutors claimed Paiz hired a man to kill her child’s father in a conflict sparked by a custody battle.

On June 25, 2012, police reportedly found her husband covered in blood, with bite marks and cuts to his head and finger. He told police he was beaten by a man in a ski mask near his home. A neighbor called police after hearing his screams, according to records filed in court.

The masked man, Khiry Blue, was arrested in Texas, where he was stationed in the Army. Blue reportedly told police that Paiz—who was stationed with him in Texas—had offered him $5,000 to kill her husband.

But Paiz reportedly gave police a different account.

According to court records, she said the agreement was for Blue to “beat up” her husband.

In August, Blue pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder, assault and conspiracy charges in connection to the incident.

Sentencing for Paiz is scheduled for December.
