The city of Gaithersburg released the following news in the last week:

Gaithersburg Community Chorus Celebrates 25 Years with Retrospective Concert

The Gaithersburg Community Chorus is pleased to present its winter concert, “A 25th Anniversary Retrospective,” directed by Hugh Harvey, III with organ and piano accompaniment by MaryLu Hartsell. This celebration of song will feature a specially commissioned piece, “Let Us Be Merry,” by Chris Fraley.

The Tuesday, Dec. 11, performance will be held at the Rosborough Cultural Arts Center Theater at Asbury Methodist Village, 409 Russell Avenue starting at 7 p.m. A public reception will follow this performance. On Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15 and 16, performances will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9000 Warfield Road starting at 7:30 p.m. 

Admission is free, and donations are gratefully accepted.

The City of Gaithersburg presents “Mixed Media of Contemporary and Ancient Influences,” featuring the works of Patricia Di Bella-Kreger and Nadia Azumi.  This unique exhibit of oil, collage and silk painting runs from Nov. 16, 2012, through Jan. 13, 2013, at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. 

Viewing hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited to a free Artists’ Reception on Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Thanksgiving Day Recycling to be Picked Up the Following Saturday

The city of Gaithersburg announces that the collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, will take place the following Saturday, Nov. 24. This includes newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, and commingled materials, as well as brush, branches, grass clippings, leaves and other yard trimmings, picked up by the City’s recycling contractor.

Comprehensive FY2012 Financial Report Available Online

The city of Gaithersburg FY 2012 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report is now available on the City’s website. The report contains financial information of importance to the decision-making process of the Mayor and City Council, the citizens of Gaithersburg, oversight bodies, and creditors. It is also a vehicle for city officials to gauge the extent to which sound financial management and reporting practices are being applied to protect the public interest.
