Sample Recreation Classes at Solstice Fitness Party

The city of Gaithersburg and the Vitamin Shoppe invite you to celebrate the longest night of the year at the first Solstice Fitness Party on Friday, De. 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. This free event is a great opportunity to sample numerous fitness class offerings in a fun and relaxed atmosphere with disco lights and power music.

This event is open to those 8 years and older. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Register Now for Holiday Break Basketball Clinics

The city of Gaithersburg will host Holiday Break Basketball Clinics on Dec. 26, 27 and 28, at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. Conducted by Ty Sanders Basketball, a local youth oriented basketball organization, these instructional clinics are a great opportunity to develop skills and confidence before the start of the winter sports season in January. 

Open to boys and girls in grades K through 5, each clinic carries a registration fee of $25, $20 for city residents.

City Hosts Workshop for FY14 Education Grants

The city of Gaithersburg Division of Community Services and the city’s Educational Enrichment Committee are hosting a free grant writing workshop for area nonprofit organizations interested in applying for city funds to support youth services or programs in partnership with schools that have a city of Gaithersburg resident enrollment of 10 percent or more. 

At the workshop, city staff and committee members will discuss the criteria, outcomes, application process and reporting requirements for the FY14 School Grants and the FY14 Nonprofit Youth Grants. Although admission is free, reservations are required by Dec. 17.

Drzyzgula Elected President of Council of Governments Corporation Board

Gaithersburg City Council Member Cathy Drzyzgula was elected President of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) Corporation Board at its annual meeting on Dec. 12. She has served on the Gaithersburg City Council since 2007. 

“I am happy to help with the operations of the MWCOG, which well serves 21 communities in the Washington area.  I am excited to be involved at the corporate level, to work with the Policy Board Chair, and to take on hosting duties for the 2013 Annual Dinner,” Drzyzgula said.

Drzyzgula served as Vice President of the MWCOG Corporation Board in 2012, and has also served as Chair of the MWCOG Chesapeake Bay Water Quality Policy Committee since 2009. She previously served as a member of the Metropolitan Washington Air Quality Committee.
