Gaithersburg Receives Flu Fighter Award, 27 Employers Recognized

Adventist HealthCare recently presented the City of Gaithersburg with a 2013 Flu Fighter Award.

Adventist HealthCare and its workplace wellness division, LifeWork Strategies, recently presented the City of Gaithersburg with a 2013 Flu Fighter Award. This is the third consecutive year that Gaithersburg has received the award, which this year recognized 27 local employers for efforts in preventing influenza.

In announcing the award, Marta Brito Perez, senior vice president and chief human resource officer at Adventist HealthCare, said, “We are honored to present the Flu Fighter Award to local businesses that have demonstrated their commitment to a healthy workplace.”

As part of its Wellness Day activities in October of 2013, the City of Gaithersburg offered free flu shots to all city employees and their immediate family members.

The city provides other wellness activities and benefits to qualifying employees throughout the year, including a GFit reimbursement program for health and fitness related activities, free fitness center membership, discounted fees for recreation classes, health screenings and resource information at Wellness Day, and regular health tips offered through its insurance carrier.

A recently established City of Gaithersburg Wellness Team, made up of representatives from each city department, is exploring other opportunities for employees to develop healthier lifestyles both at work and at home by supporting and rewarding the adoption of habits and attitudes that contribute to their overall well-being.
