Knapp to Deliver Economic Development Report Monday

Months of research and $80,000 all lead up to this.

Former County Councilman-turned consultant Mike Knapp will deliver his report on the state of economic development in Gaithersburg to the Mayor and Council at their work session on Monday.

The City hired Knapp in November to compile the report, which is meant to help guide the permanent Economic Development Director.

Officials had hoped the Director position would be filled by now, but they re-advertised the position after the two final candidates fell through in the 11th hour.

The Director will be responsible for stewarding $2 million the City set aside last year—money that has been specifically earmarked for encouraging economic development.

Knapp has said he would not apply for the position.

He indicated at the March meeting of the Economic and Business Development Committee that his research was revealing that businesses want to expand and grow in Gaithersburg, but only with help.

"It's all about partnerships," he said at the meeting.
