Gov. Martin O’Malley has launched a petition to show residents support raising Maryland’s minimum wage.

In an email from his O’Say Can You See political action committee, the governor calls on supporters to sign a petition that they back increasing the minimum employers can pay workers.

"For the first time since World War II, wages have been declining in this country, while the gulf between the middle class and the wealthy continues to grow. Moms and dads are working harder, but falling farther behind," the email reads.

O’Malley’s email doesn’t say how much he wants to increase the minimum wage, which is currently $7.25 an hour.

A proposal to raise the minimum wage to $10 an hour by 2015 couldn’t make it out of a Senate committee, according to The Washington Post.
