On the Agenda: 400 Residences Could Come to Washingtonian North

Gaithersburg City Council vote could determine whether developer's amendment to swap plans for office space with apartments proceeds.

As many as 400 residences and a health club could come to Washingtonian North if the Gaithersburg City Council passes an amendment Monday.

The council is expected to vote on a proposed amendment to an annexation agreement proposed by the owners of 27 acres within the Washingtonian Center—in this case at Sam Eig Highway and Washingtonian Boulevard—that would swap plans for office space for apartments, according to city records.

The proposal calls for 375 to 400 residences, 220,000 to 320,000 square feet of office space, and 115,000 to 130,000 square feet for a health club, city records show.

Meanwhile, Crown Farm Development expects to add 2,000 residences to its 182-acre parcel across Sam Eig. Crown developers recently welcomed its latest residents and announced that 50 homes have been sold. A Starbucks opened last week; a Harris Teeter and the opening of an apartment leasing office is expected in January, Crown said in a news release.
