On The Agenda: Mayor, Council To Introduce Whistleblower Ordinance

The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council will introduce an ordinance to amend city code pertaining to the reporting of illegal or improper acts by city officials at Monday evening's mayor and Council meeting.

In order to establish proper procedure for city staff, a “Whistleblower Focus Group” -- made up of a cross-section of employees -- was asked to develop and review proposed regulations. The group met throughout the spring and recommended amendments to the Personnel Rules and Regulations Manual, which were then reviewed by the Senior Leadership Team, according to city documents.

City staff has recommended the mayor and City Council vote to introduce the ordinance and notify the public that a hearing will be held on Nov. 19, 2012.
