Report: Bongino Wants to Make 6th District Seat Red Again

The Washington Post: Severna Park Republican won't run for governor, will bid for congressional seat.

Instead of seeking the Republican nomination for Maryland governor this year, Daniel Bongino has vowed to win back the 6th Congressional District seat for Republicans, The Washington Post reports.

Bongino—who made the announcement in Rockville at a convention of Young Maryland Republicans—has set his sights on the seat Rep. John Delaney (D) of Potomac snatched from longtime Republican incumbent Roscoe G. Bartlett after the Democratic-led state legislature redrew the Bartlett’s district to skew more Democratic, The Post reports.

The 6th Congressional District includes Gaithersburg and most of northern Montgomery County.

“We’re going to take back Roscoe’s seat. We never should have lost that seat,” Bongino said, according to The Washington Post.

Bongino, a former Secret Service agent from Severna Park, was the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in 2012, but lost to incumbent Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin (D) of Pikesville.
