Montgomery County Councilwoman Valerie Ervin, of Silver Spring, announced plans to join an already crowded Democratic field for the 2014 county executive race, The Washington Examiner reported.
Ervin joins County Councilmen George Leventhal (At Large) and Phil Andrews (Gaithersburg/Rockville), along with former County Executive Doug Duncan in the race, according to the report. Current County Executive Ike Leggett could still announce a run for re-election.
Ervin, 55, said she'd had "serious discussions" with multiple community members, pollsters and media consultants about starting her campaign, according to the report.
www.SaveBurtonsville.com Burtonsville is the Gateway into and out of Eastern Montgomery County. The reason why it looks so horrible and undeveloped is BECAUSE of Valerie Ervin’s gross mismanagement. She should have supported residential development next to the struggling shopping center instead of embracing fabricated environmental myths by the no-growth faction that wants a park. Ervin’s stunning lack of leadership on this critical issue has left Burtonsville locked in a crisis that could have easily been solved. She has cost the County many jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenues, harming both the business community and the landowners in the process. While she may have her strengths in other areas, when it comes to development and smart growth, she is clueless. Just look at how she has failed Burtonsville! Such an awful record speaks for itself.
