Report: Gaithersburg to Apply for Historic Designation for Summit Hall Farm

The city of Gaithersburg is pushing to get Summit Hall Farm on the National Register of Historic Places.

Matt Bowling, who is with the city’s Historic District Commission, told The Gazette that the city is planning to submit an application to the Maryland Historical trust to place Summit Hall Farm to the national register.

What’s left of Summit Hall Farm property can be found at Bohrer Park. Its origins trace more than two centuries back and have ties to an 18th century tobacco farmer, a Revolutionary War hero, and a slave-holding Unionist, according to city records.

Bowling told The Gazette that such a designation could help the city secure funds for the property. The designation would be the fifth Gaithersburg property added to the national register.
