Report: Third Redevelopment Plan For Towne Crest Community Flops

The Montgomery County Council would not approve a zoning change to make the project possible, The Gazette reports.

A developer's third plan to redevelop Gaithersburg's Towne Crest Community is dead after the Montgomery County Council would not approve a zoning change necessary for the project, The Gazette reports.

Towne Crest Apartments LLC planned to take the 8-acre parcel off Washington Grove Lane in Gaithersburg—which currently features about 100 townhouses and apartment units built in the 1960s—and build more more than 300 apartments and single-family homes, according to the report.

A request by the developer for the council to reconsider its vote was denied, and a legislative attorney with the county said that reopening a discussion topic such as this could set a bad precedent for the future, The Gazette reported.
