Report: Tomasello Evaluating Employee Contracts

Employment contracts with the city's top employees that state they can be fired with or without cause are being evaluated by the City Manager, The Gazette reports.

Gaithersburg City Manager Tony Tomasello is evaluating employment contracts with the city’s top employees that state they can be fired with or without cause, The Gazette reports.

The contracts were signed and instituted during the four-year tenure of former City Manager Angel Jones, with contracts being issued to Gaithersburg department heads, according to the report.

City Attorney Lynn Board told The Gazette that, historically, department heads weren't required to sign contracts, but Tomasello said he's inclined to keep them.

“I think it’s in the best interests of the city to have some structure,” Tomasello told The Gazette regarding employee contracts.

In early February, Gaithersburg Human Resources Director Margaret Daily was terminated by Tomasello. Reports indicated Daily's and Tomasello's relationship soured after Daily made it clear she didn't think Tomasello was the best candidate for City Manager.
