Reports: NTSB Can’t Investigate Red Line Death Due to Government Shutdown
Contractor was killed in a construction accident early Sunday.
Due to the government shutdown, the National Transportation Safety Board can’t send investigators to the place where a contractor died Sunday while working on Metro’s Red Line, several news outlets have reported.
The contractor, Harold Ingram, 41, died and two WMATA employees were injured in a welding accident in the Red Line tunnel between Union Station and Judiciary Square stations, according to WMATA.
Metro has promised a full investigation but a spokesperson for NTSB tells ABC 7 that the federal agency was unable to send workers to investigate the fatal accident.

The president of the Railroad Workers Union told the TV station that she was concerned there would be a lack of oversight, with NTSB sidelined due to the furloughs.
