Running The Numbers

Parks and Rec Director gives a summary of the Kentlands/Lakelands 5k

On Sept. 4, hundreds of runners raced through the Kentlands and Lakelands as part of the 17th Annual event.

But what came out in the wash was a strong fundraising effort despite the difficult economic climate.

According to Michele Potter, Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture, said 1225 racers finished the race and more than 300 kids participated in the fun run.

As always, 50 percent of the proceeds from the event went to benefit the Dolores Swoyer Scholarship Fund.

This year, that amounted to $10,000, the same as last year.

Schlichting said that even though in 2009 the event garnered about 30 percent more in sponsorships than normal and 2010 was a "more normal level" of sponsorship, the Foundation's was able to make the same contribution to the scholarship as last year.
