Willful Blindness

Unfortunately we go about our daily lives blind, ignoring the obvious in our homes family and daily routines. More than likely there is an elephant in the living room that we walk around but it is never mentioned. Sometimes it is in the workplace or a shopping center or our driving habits. Some of it has to do with anger justified or not. The key to all of these disturbing items on our list is to talk about it not sweeping it under the rug or ignoring it until it becomes a mountain and then it is  very difficult impossible to resolve. This willful blindness affects everyone at the most inopportune times as we all have a tendency to ignore the obvious. We literally go blind, such was the case at Muddy branch shopping center while walking my dog, I observed a male acting very suspicious and I wondered why but kept on walking my dog. Since I am a counselor I should be more alert than most. The male had wheeled a shopping cart from an area where there are usually no carts, he had  something in a plastic bag and i reasoned it was probably groceries. The subject then loitered in front of  the liquor store, again acting strange. I continued to walk my dog between 7-7:30 am. I kept walking and from the corner of my eye I could see him move whatever was in the cart to a chain link fence. Unfortunately I never noticed what was in the cart until the following day when I looked and thought some garbage had blown up against the fence, but on closer examination it turned out to be a propane tank in a plastic bag attached to the fence by a chain. Of course this was odd so after mentioning this to the people in the liquor store I proceeded to call the police. The response from the fire department was swift and  they determined it was strange too. They looked carefully but could find no detonation device so they removed it and the squad moved out of the area. Whatever the subject was up to was thwarted because of my presence. Obviously I interrupted his plans. The point is that I should have called the police right away as somebody could have been hurt or worse.
