Crown Construction to Open Thursday With City, County Officials

New restaurants will be unveiled along with a dramatic scale model of Gaithersburg's new Crown development when construction opens Thursday.

Gaithersburg and Montgomery County officials will be on hand Thursday for the official start of construction on the city's new Crown development.

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, Gaithersburg mayor Sidney A. Katz and City Council members will join Crown executives for the start of construction and unveiling of a dramatic scale model of the development, according to a news release.

Crown is a 180-acre community situated across the street from Gaithersburg's Washingtonian Center and Rio developments. The community will include single- and multi-family homes, shopping, dining and a future stop along the Corridor Cities Transitway.

The community has also set aside land for Montgomery County Public Schools to use in the future for a new high school, but a MCPS official said there are currently no plans to build on the 32-acre property any time soon.

The 11 a.m. unveiling of the Crown model will also include the release of the first restaurants that will call Downtown Crown home. A Harris Teeter and LA Fitness have already been announced.
