SPEAK OUT: What Stores Would You Like To See At Lakeforest Mall?

The mall recently asked its nearly 5,600 Facebook followers what stores they would like to see new owners Five Mile Capital Partners bring to the facility.

Anticipation grew for revitalization of Lakeforest Mall when it was purchased in early September of last year, and within the last week, the mall has sought input from its shoppers on future retailers.

On Thursday, Jan. 24, Lakeforest Mall asked its approximately 5,600 Facebook followers a simple question: "What new stores would YOU like to see at Lakeforest?"

The thread had received more than 80 comments as of Monday morning, with many shared opinions for the mall's future.

Lakeforest Mall planned to remove the thread from its Facebook page Tuesday morning. "The feedback is very much appreciated and we'll be forwarding the information to the new owners," Lakeforest spokeswoman Susan Davis said.

The two most popular retail stores for the future among the mall's followers were Old Navy (14 votes) and Apple (11 votes). The most popular dining destination suggested to the mall was Chipotle (7 votes).

Other repeated suggestions included Urban Outfitters, Build-A-Bear, TJ Maxx and a new movie theater.

Another commenter declined to share specific ideas for future retail stores or restaurants, but instead suggested looking at the Wheaton Mall's upgrades for ideas.

SPEAK OUT: What new stores would you like to see at Lakeforest Mall? Are there any stores there now that you'd like to stay? Others that you'd like to go? Tell us in the comments!

Editor's Note: This article was updated at 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, to note that the mall had closed the Facebook thread and include comment from its spokeswoman.

If the mall continues to be unsafe, then it doesn't matter what stores it has---I won't shop there. If new management beefs up security then I would like to see Chicos, H&M, and a better book store.

Do any of those who suggested Chipotle's realize there's one just a stone's throw from Lakeforest in Gaithersburg Square? How about some eating establishments that are not near the mall, or not in Gaithersburg, like Moe's Southwest Grill, Taco Bell, Burger King, or Arby's? I would also like to see Old Navy, MAC cosmetics, Brighton, LUSH, Fossil, Yankee Candle (again), and Laila Rowe. No TJ Maxx; that will really cheapen the mall. @Beula - H&M is already at Lakeforest.
Jim Burnetti January 29, 2013 at 02:13 AM
Beulah's right.
Joy January 29, 2013 at 01:02 PM
Old Navy, Talbots, Ann Taylor Loft, Crate & Barrel and Janie & Jack. A new place to eat where old Chi Chi's use to be and pleAse beef up security so there is an obvious change. Right now if I want to go to the mall I plan to only go in the morning and leave by noon.
Jacci Donnell January 29, 2013 at 01:44 PM
There is already and H&M there. The mall is full of hood rats and drunks hanging outside likes its some kind of ghetto stoop. The teens are taking over. I heard a kid, mybe no longer than 11, using profanity towards a store clerk that I at 43 dont even use. An Apple Store in that ghetto mall? Thats laughable. You can go to Bethesda or Montgomery Mall. I refuse to go in there exept for Sears and once I went in about 2 weeks ago to get a passport photo. I go to Wheaton, White Flint, Tyson or Montgomery Mall. Clean up the place. That will do more good than new stores for now.

I spoke with Tom Lonergan briefly yesterday about Lakeforest, and while he said it's too early to know what may or may not be coming in terms of retail, he said he's "under the impression they (the new owners) aware of the perceptions and issue (of security) and think they've been working...to make things better."

the crappy stores there now is what is drawing the hood rat element. Bring in more upscale stores instead of the junky teeny-bopper stores & you might get a turn around

Cold Water Creek, Christopher Banks, Chicos,

I would like to see a Sur la Table or equivalent kitchen store, Long John Silver's, In-n-Out Burger
Jack Collier January 29, 2013 at 02:18 PM
I agree that there are not enough variety in the stores.
Cat January 29, 2013 at 03:49 PM
Brenda, I love all your suggestions and agree with you about the TJ Maxx!

Clean up the area first, it's a cesspool
Sanja Grujic-Vlajnic January 29, 2013 at 05:04 PM
At least one good restaurant and some upscale stores!
Citizen January 29, 2013 at 05:20 PM
I bet if you take a survey , citizens don't go to the mall because of the store selection, it's the safety while shopping. You go to the eatery and you have to walk through the unsavory individuals standing outside . Then you come into the mall to shop and every other word is profanity . Your not going to attract more quality stores until the atmosphere of the mall is cleaned up and people feel safe. The management needs to provide and overabundance of security and take a more "On hands" approach to get rid of the unruly individuals and make the patrons feel safe again. The citizens will return to shop at the mall and maybe you will attract more stores. Until patrons feel safe again, they will continue to go to Montgomery Mall.

Bring back my nostalgia 'Little Tavern'. Miss those little fresh-cooked burgers!
Sharon January 29, 2013 at 05:46 PM
To Citizen: You hit the nail on the head! It's been said, unfortunately, many times (and for many years) before but no one seems to be paying attention to the 'real demise' of Lake Forest!!
bbb January 29, 2013 at 05:51 PM
We all were young once and hung out at malls/shopping centers onetime or another BUT when you feel unsafe and when adults (thats were the money comes from) feel unsafe...well there you go- NO MONEY comes in,the place has gone down hill bad and it used to be a pleasure shopping there or just a walk with family..until its back to the old days...will be shopping elsewhere.
Sharon January 29, 2013 at 05:52 PM
KS: Ditto!!!!!

Before there are any upgrades or new stores, mall security needs to be addressed. The very best security is off duty Montgomery County, and Gaithersburg City uniformed police officers. There should be a minimum of two sworn officers in the mall at anytime, any store and the mall is open.
jnrentz1 January 30, 2013 at 01:05 PM
Beula is correct concerning mall security.
In the know January 30, 2013 at 02:03 PM
If this company was smart, they would purchase Cider Mill Apartments across the street and demolish that and the bus transit center. Quality of the Mall would increase 100%.
Bob Hydorn January 30, 2013 at 02:09 PM
Greg, I have been in discussions with the new ownership as well and they very much are aware of the issues, and were coming in to purchase. They are working diligently toward the changes needed. I look forward to the major changes coming. They are a very community oriented owner. I say this as both a tenant of the Mall and as President of Montgomery VIllage.
Bob Hydorn January 30, 2013 at 02:34 PM
I would ask IN THE KNOW, Where would these hard working, many with 2 and 3 jobs just to live go? We must not condemn the majority for what a hand full gets involved in. If you look at the stats of crime and such, many of those caught, arrested etc are from other areas of the County, yes some local but many from even as far as Silver Spring and D.C. So then what do we do, tear down the areas that these people live in as well? Cider Mill keeps their property in nice shape, have you looked closely at it? If not you should. I have to agree that bus terminal is and was a major mistake by Montgomery County. Rather than just cameras placed there by the County, possibly a Montgomery County police substation (trailer), as part of the Transit Center would handle the matter. The 6th District has been looking for a location for a substation on this side of route 270, what better location could anyone ask for.

People are scared to go there...I'd like to see it close .....it's not a good mall anymore
Sandy Krems February 02, 2013 at 01:31 PM
Complete agreement with previous comments regarding security. My dream stores would be Nordstrom and Pink (VS).
megan February 02, 2013 at 03:00 PM
I'd like to see the fountains turned on again. Maybe long john silvers can come back as well!
Patsy Dennis February 03, 2013 at 04:23 PM
I would like to see an upscale lord n Taylor like the one at white flint. Lake forest's lord n Taylor does not have the same things as white flint. I wish the petite department had the huge petite dept. that white flint has and also a first class Taylor to alter my clothes, if I need it. I used to spend a lot $ at lord n Taylor in lake forest, but now I go to white flint. Also, I'm afraid to go to Lake Forest after dark. Even when I go during the day, I carry pepper spray when walking back to my car. Also, there r too many junky stores there. We lost many of my favorite stores in the last few years. A couple of upscale restaurants would be nice.
Irina Rad February 05, 2013 at 12:57 PM
Don't like this mall...H&M is there :)
Char March 28, 2013 at 06:50 PM
What really needs to happen to Lakeforest is the same thing that needed to happen with and has finally taken place regarding Laurel Mall-tear it down and make it a Town Center. Inside Malls are not what they used to be, people barely go there anymore and with a Town Center-along with a permanent Substation for Law Enforcement security could possibly be improved because of the surveillance and response time of an incident occurrance. It will also make the area walkable and accessible to stores on a street/ground level-instead of having to park your car, go into the facility and travel multiple flights in order to get to your desired location. Also, I'm regards to TJMaxx, I am a shopper and would prefer that over the hot mess known a Ross-At ast TJMmaxx/Marshalls keep their facilities clean, uncluttered and organized, where as with Ross you can barely walk through the isles due to stuff being everywhere in disarray.
Char March 28, 2013 at 06:52 PM
Meant to say at least regarding the comment I've posted above about TJMaxx. Typing way too fast .
