Germantown Native Thrives in D.C. Public School

Has Division I prospects.

Devin Gallman began his high school basketball career as a junior varsity player at Seneca Valley and finished as a Capital All-Star alongside the area’s top players.

Following the Capital All-Stars’ 136-115 loss April 17th to the United States All-Stars at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, the high school senior reflected on a journey that took him from Germantown to Washington, D.C. where he helped lead Theodore Roosevelt High to the DCIAA title and an appearance in the City Title Game in March.

“I never thought I’d come this far or whatever,” the 6-foot-4 forward said after scoring five points and grabbing three rebounds in the 38th annual Capital Classic High School All-Star Game, “but you know it’s a blessing. I’m glad to be here.”

A roster spot on the Capital Classic All-Star team is reserved for the area’s elite players and Gallman’s selection was earned through hard work and perseverance.

Gallman’s free throw near the end of the third period cut the deficit to 102-72 and he later scored a field goal to make the score 104-74 with one minute left in the period.

“I feel like I played better during the second half,” he said. “I was getting the shots I wanted.”

As a youngster, Gallman attended Germantown’s S. Christa McAuliffe Elementary School and then Roberto Clemente Middle School before enrolling at Seneca Valley as a ninth grader.

“I decided I should transfer and move out and try to get in a better situation,” said Gallman.

After spending two seasons playing at Paint Branch, Gallman finished up his high school career at Theodore Roosevelt this year where he led the Rough Riders to the league title.

“This season was tough,” said Gallman. “We went through ups and downs but we definitely succeeded a lot. [The season was] a journey to remember, basically.”

Gallman’s college options are plentiful and include various Division I basketball programs as well as junior colleges. His next move will depend largely on the outcome of his SAT score.

“I’ve got a couple D-I looks right now – Kansas State, Nebraska,” he revealed. “We’re just waiting to see what happens.”
