Lady Trojans are on Cusp of Back-to-Back State Titles

Semifinal win over Poly sends Gaithersburg to state championship rematch with Dr. Henry A. Wise High School on Saturday.

Colleen Marshall and the undefeated Gaithersburg Lady Trojans stormed past the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute Engineers at UMBC’s RAC Arena on Thursday night, leaving them one win away from repeating as state champions.  

Gaithersburg took a 10-6 lead in a defensive first quarter and built their lead to 25-15 at the half. The Lady Trojans then came out gunning in the third quarter, effectively putting the game away with a 15-6 run.  

They then kept the Lady Engineers at bay in the fourth quarter to cruise to a 47-30 win. Marshall led the way with 26 points, while junior Deja Rollins added 9, sophomore Christine Mabry 7, senior Jackie Jackson 3, and sophomore Janessa Fauntroy 2.

The Lady Trojans improved to 26-0 on the season, while extending their winning streak to 51 games. The Lady Engineers suffered their first loss of the season, ending with a record of 23-1.  

Gaithersburg moves on to play Dr. Henry A. Wise High School (25-1) in the Maryland 4A championship at 3pm Saturday at UMBC.

Last year, Gaithersburg beat Wise 58-38.
