Middle School Students Explore the Frontiers of Science at Shady Grove

600 participated in fifth annual Frontiers in Science and Medicine Day

Science labs and hospital rooms were overrun with middle schoolers Friday, the fifth annual Frontiers in Science and Medicine Day.

Johns Hopkins University Montgomery County Campus and the Shady Grove Life Sciences Center opened their lab doors Friday to roughly 600 seventh-grade students from Gaithersburg Middle School and Loiederman Middle School, a spokeswoman from Johns Hopkins University tells Patch.

The students spent part of the day at Johns Hopkins participating in hands-on science and medicine activities. They spent the other part of the day visiting a local laboratory or hospital so they could experience what doctors and scientists do each day, according to spokeswoman Ellen Poltilove, who sent Patch this photo.
