Report: Montgomery County Parents Want Schools Snack Limits to Go Further Than USDA Rules

A parents group in Montgomery County want to get rid of things like caloric drinks in cafeterias.

New USDA rules to reduce fat, salt and sugar in cafeteria foods for American school kids aren't restrictive enough for some Montgomery County parents, The Washington Post reports.

“It’s a good direction for them [the USDA],” Karen Devitt, co-founder of Real Food for Kids — Montgomery, told The Post. “We are just hoping we can do something more stringent at the local level in time.”

The parents are targeting some items that are still allowed under USDA's “Smart Snacks in School," like caloric drinks.
