Seneca Valley Athlete Commits to Shepherd University

'I enjoyed the time I was here,' said Bernard Wolley, a three-year starter for Screamin' Eagles football.

Bernard Wolley, a two-sport star at Seneca Valley High School, has verbally committed to play football at Shepherd University.

“It’s a great fit for me,” Wolley said. “I had a lot of fun up there. I like the education part of it. I feel I should fit in.”

Wolley was a three-year starter on the Screamin’ Eagles football team and was a two-time state champion wrestler in the heavyweight division.

He was named team MVP last season after helping the Screamin’ Eagles to an 8-3 record. The two-way starter helped open holes for tailback Eddie Cunningham, who rushed for more than 1,500 yards, and was an immovable force on defense at nose tackle where he landed 80 tackles and six quarterback sacks.

Wolley credited the Seneca Valley coaches Fred Kim, Jesse Smith, Bob Walko and Bob Plante with helping him develop as a player.

“I’m going to miss it a whole lot,” said Wolley. “It’s like my family. I enjoyed the time I was here.”

Shepherd University is a Division II school in the West Virginia Panhandle. Shepherd's football team finished the 2010 season with a 12-2 record overall, and finished  7-1 in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Wolley will join fellow Germantown athlete Carson Ingle in Shepherd’s 2011 recruiting class and will reunite with former Seneca Valley teammate Cody Walko.
