VIDEO: National Healthy Schools Day

EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson visited Rosemont Elementary School this week to celebrate.

On Monday Lisa Jackson, an administrator with the Federal Environmental Protection Agency, visited Rosemont Elementary School to celebrate National Healthy Schools Day.

Healthy Schools Day began nine years ago and today, sponsored by the Healthy Schools Network, is used as a platform to advocate for cleaner indoor air in schools across the Country.

Jackson was joined by Montgomery County Board of Education Vice President Shirley Brandman, Rosemont Principal Jimmy Sweeney, Executive Director of the Healthy Schools Network Claire Barnett, and MCPS Director of Facilities Management James Song.

Flaked by Rosemont students, they spoke about the need to ensure a safe school environment since kids spend so much time there during their developmental years.

Afterward, Jackson had to leave, but the rest of the group toured the school, stopping in a classroom to observe the air filtration system.
