The Kentlands/Lakelands 5K Run, Walk & Kids Fun Runs will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 8 a.m., starting near the Kentlands/Lakelands Market Square Plaza. This is a USATF certified course, offering live entertainment and 2 water stops to participants as they wind through the award-winning new urbanist communities of the Kentlands and Lakelands. The Kentlands/Lakelands 5K isn't just fun, it raises money for good causes, too! Last year the Foundation donated $10,500 to the Delores C. Swoyer Summer Camp Scholarship Fund which helps send Gaithersburg kids to camp; $1,500 to the Maryland Senior Olympics and $500 to The Dwelling Place. The other proceeds benefitted the Foundation programs such as The Kentlands Community Garden, Kentlands Community Children's Chorus, Kentlands Film Society, Gaithersburg's Young Artist Award Competition and much more.
