Hershey Track and Field 2011 Maryland State Championship Meet

The City of Gaithersburg will host the Hershey Track and Field 2011 Maryland State Championship Meet on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from noon to 6 p.m. at Watkins Mill High School.  Youth from the across the state of Maryland will compete in this annual event.  Watkins Mill High School is located at 10301 Apple Ridge Road in Montgomery Village, Maryland.

First place finishers will be invited to the Hershey Track and Field North American Finals taking place in Hershey, PA this August.  This event is co-sponsored by The Hershey Corporation, National Recreation and Parks, USA Track and Field, and Athletics Canada.  The City of Gaithersburg conducted a local qualifying meet on June 3.  Sixty four participants qualified for the State Championships. 

This is the first year that the City Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture Sports Division has conducted its own Track and Field Program.  The response was three times higher than anticipated, with over 160 youth coming out to run.
